Microsoft has started to roll out a new lightweight version from its Visio diagramming tool to Microsoft 365 business customers. The Visio web app was first announced in June and is available to all Office 365 and Microsoft 365 business subscribers at no additional cost.
âVisio has long been available only as a stand-alone application for purchase for people with specialized diagramming needs. But that is about to change. We recognize a growing need for a diagramming solution that allows everyone to convey information more efficiently, which is why we are excited to announce that we will be bringing the core functionality of Visio to Microsoft 365 for all license subscribers. commercials, âthe company explained in a blog post.
The built-in lightweight Visio web application allows users to seamlessly create, edit, and collaborate on Visio diagrams with their colleagues. It comes with a bunch of design templates, such as process diagrams and basic flowcharts. Users will be able to access the Visio app in Microsoft Teams, and it also integrates with Word and PowerPoint. Additionally, the new Visio Data Visualizer add-in for Excel provides the ability to create a diagram from the data in the worksheet to help users visualize it.
Microsoft says this new lean version of its Visio will not replace existing subscription plans and will only meet users’ “essential” diagramming needs. However, Visio stand-alone plans will continue to be available to meet the âmore specialized diagramming needsâ of corporate clients.
It’s important to note that the new Visio experience is rolling out gradually for Microsoft 365 customers, and you may have to wait a bit longer to see it in your tenant. If you want to try the Visio web app, you can go to Office Online to get started.
